About Space Maintenance
Space maintainers are small appliances that keep the gap open when a baby tooth is lost early, so the permanent tooth has room to come in. They are made of metal or plastic and fit on the nearby teeth. The dentist checks the appliance at regular visits and removes it when the permanent tooth is ready to erupt.
