Remember most insurance companies cover adult examinations and x-rays once a year, but cover dental cleanings up to 4 times a year. Perks Dental Hygiene recommends you visit a dentist for an exam annually, and look forward to working in coordination with your dentist.
When an insurance tells you your only eligible for a cleaning once a year they are referring to grouping the services of recall exam, x-rays, scaling, polish and fluoride together. But what they don’t often explain is that you are most often eligible for a lot more scaling. Scaling is when your dentist hygienist removes all the plaque and tartar above and below the gumline, making sure to clean all the way down to the bottom of the pocket. Scaling is the most beneficial and time consuming part of a dental cleaning.
We will refer you to your current dentist for further evaluation and possible repair of any dental issues you may have. If you do not have a dentist, we can help you locate a recommended dentist. We may also refer you to another healthcare practitioner or specialist if your condition or situation requires a referral to someone other than a dentist.
